Isadora Duncan in the Theater of Love & War 1914 – 1918
Experience the spirit of Isadora Duncan in IDII’s powerful new dance-theater production, premiering on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 7pm at the Woodstock Playhouse in Woodstock, New York
Honoring Duncan’s time in the Hudson Valley during WWI, this performance features a rare reconstruction of her original choreography to Beethoven’s 7th Symphony, Movement II Allegretto alongside new works that channel her revolutionary artistry. Housed between New York City, Woodstock, and homes along the Hudson, Duncan continued, amidst tensions of war, to evolve her revolutionary dance form by addressing the humanity of all living people and asserting the validity of female artists.
Set to the stirring music of Beethoven, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky, the performance captures Duncan’s fusion of nature, humanity, and art—a timeless reflection on resilience and hope. Amidst the same forests and rivers she once wandered in the historic artist colony of Woodstock, Jeanne Bresciani & The Isadora Duncan International Institute Dancers bring her indomitable vision to life with sweeping gestures, defiant strength, and lyrical grace.
