Myth, Movement & Metaphor | Isadora Duncan: Movement at the Threshold

November 6, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - November 8, 2020 @ 1:00 pm

Isadora Duncan:

Movement at the Threshold

In this next chapter of the Myth, Movement & Metaphor Program, we shall encounter the liminal spaces of physical, mental, spiritual and emotional change for the dancer and for humankind as witnessed at crucible places and times of impact, great and small. From the sacred to the profane, mythic to everyday, we shall arrive at, meet, cross and reflect upon our passage at the bridge places of life as turning points to newness and growth through deeper presence and authenticity in the dance. Akin to Isadora’s enactments through art, history, music and the mythos, we shall be guided to remastery at crossroads personal and universal confronting past, present and future at junctures quintessential. Ultimately, in terpsichorean mode, movement shall enliven us to the brink of awakening, expanding, refining and revamping like a tonic to stagnation – the clarity of the next footfall. Borrowing perspectives from Ovid’s natural and celestial haunts in Metamorphoses, Dante’s ancient and eternal realm in the Divine Comedy and Rilke’s burst of divine inspiration in the Sonnets to Orpheus, we shall chart – not what we have done before, not just what we want to do but what we must do in answer to the call of destiny.

“Voluminous, vast, swelling like sails in the wind, the movements of my dance carry me onward — onward and upward…” ~ Isadora Duncan
